Actually it ships the upstream .jar so consider renaming in dev-vcs/bfg-bin
Sorry, I don't see this as a big deal as there are plenty of other binary pkgs in the tree without a "-bin" suffix (e.g. elasticsearch) since that isn't a rule of any sort that I know of. If you want to contribute and maintain a source-based pkg set for bfg and all its deps, then we can consider changing it. Some deps could probably be debundled, but I haven't cared enough to do anything yet, feel free to provide some patches to motivate me. :)
(In reply to Tim Harder from comment #1) > Sorry, I don't see this as a big deal as there are plenty of other binary > pkgs in the tree without a "-bin" suffix (e.g. elasticsearch) Fix them all (?) is just a question of renaming a folder, some files and fix the download uri > since that > isn't a rule of any sort that I know of. > https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Gentoo_Java_Packing_Policy Build from Source As is standard practice on Gentoo, all Java applications and libraries are to be built from source. This includes any dependencies which might be bundled and/or downloaded during compile. Limited exceptions are made for some applications and almost never for a library, all on a case by case basis. Some complex applications have too many dependencies which are not packaged, sources are not available, and/or the package is not easily built. Those might qualify for exceptions, but by default all Java packages should be built from source. For reasons why, please refer to Why Build from Source. > If you want to contribute and maintain a source-based pkg set for bfg and > all its deps, no, I don't >then we can consider changing it. I'm only saying to change the name *not the way is built

I'm quite familiar with java packaging and thus avoid it where I can. :) Anyway, again this mainly cosmetic change isn't worth it to me.
