Description Matthew Marchese Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev 2017-02-09 22:15:32 UTC
This affects the rendering of the Bootloader section (GRUB) of the AMD64 Handbook:
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:AMD64/Installation/Bootloader#Install

Looks like it was specifically this merge unstream that fixed the issue: https://github.com/SemanticMediaWiki/SemanticMediaWiki/pull/1248

It is mentioned as being fixed on this page: https://www.semantic-mediawiki.org/wiki/Semantic_MediaWiki_2.4.0

(search for #1248)

I also wrote a short snippet about this as a 2017 goal for the Handbook project: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Wiki#Plugin_updates

It would be nice to get our MW Extensions up-to-date (if we can safely do so). I'd also like to see the translations Extension updated because it is causing problem for one of our translators, but that can be a separate bug. :)

Increasing the importance of this bug because it is a blocker to anyone installing Gentoo (especially first-time installs). Hate to see us lose potential new users after getting exposure to them via FOSDEM 2017.

Seems like a few new users already encountered a related problem: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1058952.html

Linking the bug under "See also".

*** Bug 609328 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Comment 4 Vieri 2017-02-15 13:08:38 UTC
My bug report has been closed as a duplicate of this bug (https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=609328).

However, apart from the rendering error
grub-install --target=x86 64-efi --efi-directory=/boot
should read:
grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --efi-directory=/boot

I also noted a few extra thngs regarding that section in the handbook.

The manual never mounts /boot as fat32. The examples seem to suggest to use /boot/efi as the mount point for the fat32 partition. So, the command should really read:

grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --efi-directory=/boot/efi /dev/sda

It would be nice to also mention how to install grub so that the user can boot with both Legacy BIOS and UEFI. The command sequence should be:

grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --efi-directory=/boot/efi /dev/sda
grub-install --target=i386-pc /dev/sda

Should I create a seperate bug report?
Comment 5 Matthew Marchese Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev 2017-02-16 18:57:45 UTC
I have been able to work around this problem my creating a "Text" datatype Property for the offending Handbook parameter. Lowering the priority of this bug down to normal.

It would still be nice to have the SMW extension updated, but it installs are no longer broken.

WRT Vieri's comment above, please do not open another bug. All Handbook specific requests/changes should be added to associated discussion pages on the wiki.
Comment 6 Brian Evans (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2018-11-29 19:43:12 UTC
This will be part of the main wiki update to 1.30.1
Comment 7 Matthew Marchese Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev 2018-12-06 07:38:51 UTC
After wiki updates SMW is now version 3.0.0.

This bug is now resolved.
