Description Joseph Booker 2004-08-15 10:43:34 UTC
when i emerge xorg-x11-0.6.7.99, i get a few segfault errors when dealing with fonts, then (after removing speedo from my xorg.conf, i guess its not included anymore) i get errors about unrevolved symbols in the intel 810 driver. I'm currently using the xorg-x11-0.6.7.0 release, but im willing to switch back to try fixes

btw, this happened before with a xorg-x11-cvs ebuild i have (i assumed the cvs was just b0rked), and the first time i had freetype-cvs installed, ive uninstalled it and recompiled it, still the same error with portage's freetype, so I don't think its related to that.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. unmask newest xorg-x11
2. emerge xorg-x11
3. /etc/init.d/xdm restart

Actual Results:
X gets restarted a few tiems and fails each time, then the usual message comes
up about unable to start X

Expected Results:
start up gdm

xorg.conf

my xorg.conf file, not quite sure that this will help, but still added out of
completeness

i've been having the same problem on a gateway profile P3 i810e (circa win98, only takes single sided dimms, its like lap-top that won't fold). i bootstrapped it along with an hp 8760c P3 (has nvidia fx card) with a p4 to gcc-3.3.3 and 2.6.7 kernel. i was useing xfree 6.7.0-r2 at least in the beginning but switched over to xfree-6.7.99 since the hp was doing well with it. when i was about to merge the profile i went to clear my ram temp and made the once in a lifetime mistake of mixing rm -r and globbing in the dark at 3am and lost root etc etc etc. so i remove the var db and unpacked everything again only with xorg-6.7.99. now xorg bjorks with unresolved symbols, it can't find half the time kbd. i fought with it for some time then umerged and went back to xorg-6.7.0 which runs the xorg.conf's that previously would not run. the funs not in the going up--its in the coming down, theres half a dozen additional libs linked thoughly into kde and gnome (im not even sure if this is nessesary--kde just links the whole Xf11 dir) interestingly i put my P4s libXf'x in the profile and xorg-6.7.0 on top and it stays up -- for now! im sure this is not kosher so if no one has any better ideas im just going to put on some metallica and emerge xfree with -wall.
