Description Tristan Wilson 2004-08-15 06:41:22 UTC
When emerge uses the Pacific Internet server, it seems to be downloading corrupted tars and causing errors either with unpacking or compillation.

For instance, I received an error about the binutils tar.bz2 file being corrupted when emerge tried to unpack it.

I have run memtest recently, but have not completely ruled out a hardware problem on my side.

Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Tried to install Gentoo from scratch using Pacific Internet's stage files and using their server as primary mirror. I have tried 1,2, and 3.
2. Used different stage files but still used Pacific as my mirror.
Actual Results:
Either failure to unpack the tar files, terminating the emerge, or failure
compiling for various different reasons; sometimes segfaults, sometimes missing
headers.

Expected Results:
Emerged propperly!

I discovered this was a hardware problem, so please disregard this.
