Description norbert kamenicky 2004-08-13 13:17:06 UTC
I noticed random machine freezes during big uploads using scp.
Because scp on localhost worked properly, I made "flood" ping test
from remote machine ... gentoo got freezed in few minutes.

Kernel gentoo-sources-2.4.26-r*
platform P4, x86 stable
RTL8169 onboard, driver compiled as module

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
On remote machine run "flood" ping similar to this:

   ping -f -s1500 -p1234567890 ip-of-rtl8169-iface-on-gentoo

and let it run until gentoo freezes.

Actual Results:
Gentoo with kernel 2.4.26-r8 and rtl8169 driver freezes in few minutes.

Expected Results:
Normal ping answer.

google fed with "r8169 freeze" shows a lot of links related
to this problem

Could you please try vanilla-sources and see if you can reproduce the same issue?
Comment 3 Tim Yamin (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-08-13 13:32:30 UTC
Sidenote: 2.4.27 may have a fix for this, so can you see if you get this with 2.4.26 please?
Comment 4 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-09-05 16:20:40 UTC
Please test with newer kernel (as requested above) and reopen if the issue still exists.
