Plex Email granting permission to redistribute public plex binaries (not Plex Pass binaries)

This is a bug to track the mirroring license issue for the "plex-media-server" package. I've been in contact with Plex legal and they've provided us permission to redistribute/mirror their public Plex binaries. We are able to do so with the understanding that we cannot redistribute/mirror their "Plex pass" binaries, only the public ones.

Attached is a screenshot of the email sent by a Plex Legal representative to my gentoo.org email.

Any updates on this?

My understanding was that we are waiting for upstream to update their ToS, before we can update the license file.

The mirror and bindist restrictions could be lifted immediately, based on their e-mail message.

Hey Ulrich,

I was under the impression that the licenses team would let give me approval of the above email message and thus after that I could proceed with removing the mirror restriction (not sure about the bindist one). But if you say it's ok, I'll remove _both_ of these restrictions with a future commit. Is that ok?

I've looked up the e-mail from November again. You're right, only the mirror restriction should be removed. You had only asked about mirroring, so their "free to proceed" won't cover redistribution of binaries by the end user.

Sounds good. I'll remove only the "mirror" restriction later today.

Mirror restrict lifted.
