Description Bernd Feige 2016-11-15 14:32:26 UTC
On a Dell Latitude D620 laptop, gnome-shell(3.22.2) does not start. Error:
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 131 (XInputExtension)
Minor opcode of failed request: 57 ()

Downgrading to x11-wm/mutter-3.22.1 fixes the problem, as noted here:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1669060

It appears that the origin of this bug is still not known. I had guessed that libinput's touchpad support was the culprit, but a minor release of mutter?

We need to apply this patch:
https://git.gnome.org/browse/mutter/commit/?h=gnome-3-22&id=5c46094d67f2e5cdafe6edcfd8c0d5894a2dafc6

or wait for 3.22.3

So we've had mutter 3.22.3 for a month now, so I'm assuming this is fixed there. Please reopen if this is not the case.
