Description Émeric Maschino 2016-11-11 15:18:11 UTC
Hi,

GDM is enabled at startup.

If I'm waiting on the login screen until my monitor enters into power saving mode, I'm then unable to wake it up. Remotely restarting GDM doesn't help and a system reboot is required.

It's noteworthy that only GDM fails into this: I've no problem once logged into GNOME (defaulting to X11), GNOME on Wayland or Weston session to wake up my monitor.

BTW, GDM on X11 backend doesn't have this either.

All this on ia64 workstation with r300g driver.

Same problem with brand new gdm-3.22.1.

I doubt it affects things, but can you try again with 3.22.3?

As you guessed, no difference, even though last emerge @world updated the whole graphics stack (X server, Mesa, Wayland and xf86-video-ati driver) with gdm-3.22.3.

Little update with GNOME 3.32 desktop and =gnome-base/gdm-3.32.0.

Back at the time, I was probably running systemd. I've now switched to OpenRC/elogind, so things may have changed since then.

The original issue is still there: if I wait at the GDM banner until the screen goes into power saving mode, I'm unable to resume from there. I'm unable to switch to a VT console (the screen remains in power saving mode), but xdm service can now be remotely restarted to resume from power saving; reboot is no more required :-)

As previously, if I'm logged to a GNOME (or GNOME on Xorg) session and the screen goes into power saving mode, I've no problem resuming from there.

Could this be an input-related issue in the end?

Is this still valid at present time with an updated system? I think I never was able to reproduce (at least on intel graphic cards systems)

Thanks for the feedback
