xemacs and emacs depended on the ability to redefine this env variable within
their ebuilds to producing working *executables*. please restore this
functionality. We will be looking into patching emacs/xemacs/glibc in the mean time.

Can you verify this is fixed on current poratge? Don't have an x86 box to test.
