Solution was to simply install boost. However, I think that dev-libs/libixion::gentoo should automatically pull this in as a dependency?
Comment 1 Bugsie 2016-09-21 02:05:36 UTC
Solution emerge boost:

[ebuild R ] dev-libs/boost-1.61.0-r1 USE="nls threads -context -debug -doc -icu -mpi -python -static-libs -tools" ABI_X86="(64) -32 (-x32)" PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 python3_4 -python3_5"
Comment 2 gentoo@danielquinn.org 2016-10-31 14:02:02 UTC
Perhaps interestingly, I had this very problem and already had dev-libs/boost installed. However *re-installing* boost appears to have solved the problem, though I have no idea why.

It does.

Have you been doing the switch to GCC-5 before this?
