Description Franz Trischberger 2016-09-20 06:02:35 UTC
Scrolling spikes one CPU-core to 100%. Redrawing the terminal (tested xterm, urxvt and VTE) is extremly slow and often not complete, only half the page gets updated (visible especially when switching tabs in tmux/screen).
Also when I lock the screen (currently using xlockmore) I can see the desktop when waking up the screen again.
I also had my webbrowser show the wrong tab content after tab switch for a second or two.

2.99.917_p20160704 is the last working version for me, any newer snapshot shows those issues. I played with different USE-Flags, especially I enabled dri3 for the latest version. But nothing helps.

Graphics card (according to lspci):
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
(integrated GPU in my Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2350M CPU @ 2.30GHz)

I did several kernel updates since this issue showed up the first time. Currently I'm running gentoo-sources-4.7.4.

If there is any special info you need please tell me.

Do you use compton? I had similar issues with VTE (xterm) and the issue appears only when compton is active. This started to happen after August 2 so p20160704 is not affected but p20160803 and later yes. See [1] for details. The fix is to build compton from git, but it brings new issues (for me it was Firefox). I think it may happen on other compositors.

1. NOT security bug, this is the way x86 graphics hardware works (with all current drivers)

2. disable all compositing as requested and try again
Comment 3 Franz Trischberger 2016-11-06 10:16:20 UTC
Finally found the time to get back to this issue.

Yes I am running compton. But I can't find a way to make it work. The suggested cmdline-invocation didn't help. Changing backends didn't help, xr_glx_hybrid made things worse - windows including the desktop just disappeared.
I used compton mostly to get a tearfree desktop, because non-composited tearing is even worse than what I see with newer intel-driver... I hope glamor will finally fix this issue for me. I gave it a try and it seems to do a good job. xorg-server-1.19 is said to even further improve it.
