Description Andrew 2004-07-28 02:29:51 UTC
There is a patch for aterm that gives a dropshawdow to the text. Attatched is the patch and a new ebuild which makes use of a new USE flag of dropshadow.

Ebuild to apply the patch

This ebuild is the same as the 0.4.2-r9 except it applies the new patch and
adds a new USE varible.

I'm sorry, but such a small additional feature does not justify adding a new USE flag (even a local one). Looking at the code seems to indicate that once the patch is applied, all aterm windows will have the dropshadow effect enabled, right? If this is the case, then we can't add the patch. It would be pretty nice if it was possible to enable/disable it with an command-line option (just as you can do with transparency now).

Your reading of the patch is correct. I don't know if this will be changed to make it a command line switch, though I agree that would be nice.

Well, maybe it's time to bug the patch authors a little bit? :) Making it configurable isn't that much of a hassle, so I'm sure they'd be willing to help ;) Before that happens, we'll have to wait. I'm marking this as "LATER" which in this case means "when a nicer patch is made".
