After upgrading to openldap-2.4.44 (from former Gentoo stable package), the init script prints out error when starting the service. Although the service starts and works. /etc/init.d/slapd start awk: warning: command line argument `/etc/openldap/slapd.d/cn=config' is a directory: skipped config file testing succeeded * Starting ldap-server ... (Suppressed the OK here). I just installed =net-nds/openldap-2.4.43 (stable on amd64) and I'm seeing the same error message when restarting slapd: $ sudo /etc/init.d/slapd restart * Stopping ldap-server ... [ ok ] awk: warning: command line argument `/etc/openldap/slapd.d/cn=config' is a directory: skipped 58351f15 ldif_read_file: checksum error on "/etc/openldap/slapd.d/cn=config/olcDatabase={-1}frontend.ldif" config file testing succeeded * Starting ldap-server ... [ ok ] Mine also includes a checksum error message which is also concerning. I'm not sure if it's related.
I just filed bug 600554 for the checksum error issue.
the problem is line 41 of the init script slapd this line will never check user and group for Database Directory in an OLC environment. Because awk didn't find anything with olcDbDirectory. The slapd init script should be changed in line 41 from [ -d $CONF ] && CONF=${CONF}/* to [ -d $CONF ] && CONF=${CONF}/cn=config/*.ldif all Database Directory's are defined in ldif files beneath the cn=config Directory.
