These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

[ebuild     U ~] net-im/skype- [] USE="apulse plasma -pax_kernel -pulseaudio (-selinux)" 0 KiB

  (dev-qt/qtwebkit-4.8.6-r1:4/4::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
    dev-qt/qtwebkit:4[-exceptions,abi_x86_32(-)] required by (net-im/skype-, ebuild scheduled for merge)

  (dev-qt/qtwebkit-4.8.6-r1:4/4::gentoo, installed) pulled in by
    >=dev-qt/qtwebkit-4.5:4[exceptions] required by (app-text/goldendict-1.0.1:0/0::gentoo, installed)
For now I just hardmasked net-im/skype- and continued using -r5.

Comment 2 tman 2016-02-02 11:03:42 UTC
i have same problem and it would be nice if we have a solution:

  (dev-qt/qtwebkit-4.8.7:4/4::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
    dev-qt/qtwebkit:4[-exceptions,abi_x86_32(-)] required by (net-im/skype-, ebuild scheduled for merge)

  (dev-qt/qtwebkit-4.8.7:4/4::gentoo, installed) pulled in by
    >=dev-qt/qtwebkit-4.5:4[exceptions] required by (app-text/goldendict-9999:0/0::lokal, installed)

The following USE changes are necessary to proceed:
 (see "package.use" in the portage(5) man page for more details)
# required by net-im/skype-
# required by media-sound/skype-call-recorder-0.8::gentoo
# required by @selected
# required by @world (argument)
>=dev-qt/qtwebkit-4.8.7:4 -exceptions
Comment 3 mAhdi 2016-02-02 18:21:48 UTC
Same here is there a reason why skype requires it now?
Comment 4 Amy Liffey gentoo-dev 2016-02-02 19:07:02 UTC
(In reply to mAhdi from comment #3)
> Same here is there a reason why skype requires it now?

Well yes there is a reason. I would not add it if it was not necessary.
Comment 5 mAhdi 2016-02-02 19:17:25 UTC
Thanks for explanation then I can safely put it into local overlay with the same useflags as before knowing this doesn't affect stable gcc (yet).
Comment 6 mAhdi 2016-02-02 19:24:05 UTC
Though should not this be better handled to have this conditional for higher gcc only? Why force someone with stable gcc to have unnecessary conflicts?

net-im/skype: Add old revision bug #546746.

You can use old revision.

Comment 8 Raymond Jennings 2016-09-27 15:28:02 UTC
As the pmaint, I am honestly stumped on this one.

Best I can suggest is to make sure the skype USE dependencies properly reflect the situation.

* Does r6 *really* need this?

* If so, screw you microsoft

I don't have enough expertise (yet...) to mess with this.
Comment 9 Dmitry Grigoriev 2016-09-27 15:59:50 UTC
Just thoughts without conclusions/advises. Look at:

# diff skype- skype-
<       dev-qt/qtwebkit:4[abi_x86_32(-)]
>       dev-qt/qtwebkit:4[-exceptions,abi_x86_32(-)]
< elog "If skype is segfaulting for you with gcc-5+ please consider "
<       elog "instalation of dev-qt/qtwebkit[-exceptions]"

I think this was added as a result of investigating some bug report. Skype is binary package, and its downloaded installer (or whatever) is the same in r5 and r6. Since I never saw segfaults on 64-bit Intel CPUs (I still use r5), the situation must be arch/env specific.

Just realized: right now Skype is the only thing on my system still using Qt4 (here I took ebuild for app/text/goldendict-9999 with Qt5 support), so maybe I'll rebuild qtwebkit:4[-exceptions] and unmask r6.
Comment 10 Raymond Jennings 2016-10-16 04:06:05 UTC
Afraid there's an inherent conflict here.

If you want to stuff a copy of the ebuild in /usr/local/portage without the USE flag, feel free. I'm too stumped on this one and my first impression is that everything is as it should be.
