Description Michał Górny archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2015-12-23 15:08:18 UTC
The herds have been deprecated by the Council and are being replaced
by projects. For this reason, please decide on the fate of the herd
stated in the summary and update [1] or state the request here.

The common choices are:

1. Map the herd to an existing project (in this case all packages
in the herd will be maintained by the project) -- let us know which
project to use.

2. Create a new project for the herd -- create the wiki page, let us
know the new mail alias name to be created, create the wiki page
and let us know about it.

3. Decide to disband the herd -- just let us know (but keep it for now
in herds.xml!), we'll replace it with individual maintainers when herds
are removed.

If my grep skills do not fail me:
/usr/portage/net-ftp/cmdftp/metadata.xml:<herd>net-ftp</herd>
/usr/portage/net-ftp/filezilla/metadata.xml: <herd>net-ftp</herd>
/usr/portage/net-ftp/proftpd/metadata.xml:	<herd>net-ftp</herd>
/usr/portage/net-ftp/pure-ftpd/metadata.xml:<herd>net-ftp</herd>
/usr/portage/net-ftp/tlswrap/metadata.xml:	<herd>net-ftp</herd>
/usr/portage/net-ftp/vsftpd/metadata.xml:	<herd>net-ftp</herd>

I think it is not worth having a project to handle these (and most of these packages are better with a specific maintainer), so we should disband this herd.
Lars, what do you think?

I agree. Personally I am interested in net-ftp/filezilla and net-ftp/pure-ftpd
Comment 3 Bernard Cafarelli gentoo-dev 2016-01-12 09:09:53 UTC
OK, let's go with option 3 then!
Comment 4 Michael Palimaka (kensington) gentoo-dev 2016-01-12 11:44:53 UTC
Thanks, updated the mapping to reflect the decision to disband the herd.
Comment 5 Michał Górny archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2016-01-12 11:56:03 UTC
Just to be clear, which variant of disbanding do you prefer:

1. replacing it with both of you in all packages,

2. removing it with no direct replacement (you'd have to add yourselves before)?
Comment 6 Bernard Cafarelli gentoo-dev 2016-01-12 12:39:51 UTC
No direct replacement, most of these have specific maintainers (Lars, feel free to add yourself to filezilla metadata), the others will be better with maintainer-needed
Comment 7 Michał Górny archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2016-01-12 12:59:16 UTC
Ok, noted. Please add yourself to metadata in packages which you don't want to go into maintainer-needed since I will be announcing new maintainer-needed packages after the conversion.
