Mate has released r1.12 of its desktop environment, see http://mate-desktop.org/blog/2015-11-05-mate-1-12-released/
There is already bug 551588
I'm going to leave this separate as I'm almost ready to close the other. 1.12 will be worked on as soon as that is done. Just bare in mind that a DE is a large undertaking and takes a little time, and when I we took over maintenance, it was already a bit behind. You can get the most up to date ebuilds in the project repo.
Any news on this?
@StephanLitters, You can test the ebuilds from here: https://github.com/oz123/mate-de-gentoo. The should work, but there are not so easy to merge to the official repo. I should get to work on that, since 1.14 is coming soon ...
@OzTiram Thanks for this information - I know I can do that but I prefer to have it in portage so other gentoo users can emerge it as well ;-)

MATE 1.14 is available - see bug Bug 579432 (which was closed today...)
Does someone know why 1.12 and 1.14 is not available at https://packages.gentoo.org/packages/mate-base/mate ?
(In reply to Stephan Litterst from comment #8) > Does someone know why 1.12 and 1.14 is not available at > https://packages.gentoo.org/packages/mate-base/mate ? 1.12 is in the works. 1.14 just came out. There is a lot of work involved in vbumping an entire desktop environment. Be patient.

There are 9999s which need a small update to accomodate some changes in 1.15, but I should be able to get 1.14 and updated 9999s out shortly. Please test 1.12 thoroughly as there have been a lot of changes to the ebuilds.

1.12 compiled flawlessly on my box. Runs fine so far.
(In reply to NP-Hardass from comment #12) > Please test 1.12 thoroughly as there have been a lot of changes to the ebuilds. I have added the gentoo-mate repo and tried an upgrade from 1.10 to 1.12. The only package that hasn't been successful for me is '=mate-extra/mate-screensaver-1.12.0' which failed with a message of gs-manager.c:(.text+0xae7): undefined reference to `mate_bg_create_pixmap'. Do you need me to create a new bug for this? Or just attach the failed build.log to this bump bug?

(In reply to NP-Hardass from comment #16) > Separate bug report with emerge --info mate-screensaver and build.log would > be great. Thanks. Okay, bug #588332 created for the mate-screensaver build failure. Thanks.
Did a rebuild with +gtk3 recently. Everything went fine but mate-indicator-applet-1.12.1 (https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=589606). Apart from that no issues so far.
1.12 is in the main repo.
Thanks!
1.14 is now in the project repo. Please give it a try, and we'll merge it into the main repo as soon as it has been thoroughly tested.
Awesome work @NP-Hardass! I've tried it out, and so far so good. One package did fail to build: mate-applets. I've filed bug 593654 with build.log etc. attached. I'm not sure if it's related to bug 593470, but does fail to build at the cpufreq portion.

This release wouldn't have been possible without the big help from mudler. Glad to hear that minus the one issue, everything worked properly and as expected. Thanks for testing and reporting back. Regarding that issue, the two bug reports are in fact fundamentally related, so I merged the two bug reports. Just in case anyone else didn't see it, there are some minor issues with cpupower/kernel 4.7 at this moment for mate-applets-1.14 and we should have a temporary fix shortly.
As bug 593680 and bug 593680 are fixed now MATE 1.14 builds fine! Did a gkt3 build with no problems so far.
(In reply to ernsteiswuerfel from comment #24) > As bug 593680 and bug 593680 are fixed now MATE 1.14 builds fine! Did a gkt3 > build with no problems so far. Terrific. Thanks for testing.
If all bugs are fixed, is there any hope to see new version in tree at last?
(In reply to lumbrius from comment #26) > If all bugs are fixed, is there any hope to see new version in tree at last? The current schedule that we are working with is 1.12 stabilization and 1.14 import into the main repo ~8th of October
I just tested MATE 1.12 and noticed that there's question marks and notices for missing themes on every theme in MATE (I updated mate-themes and adwatia to 1.12 as well) and there are some missing theme features that I've noticed too (mostly toolbar related missing features that really turn me off.) "This theme will not look as intended because the required window manager theme <insert every theme here> is not installed." I have flushed my .config .cache .themes .thumbnails etc folders and still same issue, this is not a fresh install however (nor should that be required for WM/DM updates.) One more thing, mate terminal always opens up in the smallest size that it possibly can. Are these known problems? Alec Ari

If you don't mind, please open a separate bug and include emerge --info and screenshots if you are reporting an issue with the way something looks
Quick feedback : MATE 1.14.1 from gentoo-mate overlay works fine. (-gtk3)
With +gtk MATE 1.14.1 from gentoo-mate overlay also works fine. Running it since a few weeks on my ppc G5 and amd64 box.
There's Mate 1.16 out, even. Maybe bump to that?
Mate 1.18 is out - see Bug 612878

This bug needs to be closed. Why mark Bug 612878 as a duplicate of this?
(In reply to Sven from comment #35) > This bug needs to be closed. Why mark Bug 612878 as a duplicate of this? Indeed. I haven't checked if this bug is still valid when marked your bug as a duplicate.
