The mentioned eclass (+ epunt_cxx from eutils.eclass) abuses repository structure by putting a large number of files inside eclass/ subdirectory. Most of those files are never used on most of Gentoo systems yet propagated uncompressed. Furthermore, this is the only consumer of ECLASSDIR which can never work correctly with multiple repositories.

We would really prefer if ELT-patches were moved to a properly versioned and manifest-covered tarball, and libtool.eclass would add an appropriate DEPEND against it. Furthermore, the package could be made to filter unnecessary patches during install to save space. In fact, even some of the more complex eclass logic could be moved to an external patcher tool.
