Could you please attach configure.log and see if /usr/lib64/libdb-4.8.so is present?
Comment 3 Thomas 2015-10-31 15:10:13 UTC
It's a 32bit only System. There's no 64bit library around. I double-checked! All logs are in the attachment logs.tbz2.

Hi Justin,

Thanks for your hint!

I downgraded to sys-devel/binutils-2.24-r3 and the issue is solved!

Comment 11 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2016-02-15 17:08:59 UTC
try re-emerging binutils-2.25.1 and see if it fixes things. if not, post the output of `ldd /usr/bin/as` please.
Comment 12 Alexander Tsoy 2016-05-11 16:36:47 UTC
Looks like build system set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to "/usr/lib". The problem is in db3-check.m4:

...
dnl -- Uses version set by NETATALK_BDB_HEADER to try to run
dnl -- a conftest that checks that header/lib version match
dnl -- $shlibpath_var is set by LIBTOOL, its value is
dnl -- LD_LIBRARY_PATH on many platforms. This will be fairly
dnl -- portable hopefully. Reference:
dnl -- http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/autoconf/2009-03/msg00040.html
eval export $shlibpath_var=$bdblibdir
NETATALK_BDB_TRY_LINK
eval export $shlibpath_var=$saved_shlibpath_var
...

nice catch. that's no good.
Comment 15 Thomas 2016-05-11 18:01:10 UTC
I still can't emerge netatalk with the latest stable binutils. sys-devel/binutils-2.24-r3 works fine.

if you have a build log, please always attach the full log. often times (including this one), the small snippet you post is insufficient to triage.
