i enabled opus USE flag system-wide and since than when i run vlc, it either does not show video at all or it displays the video just in small rectangle with wrong aspect ratio. i tried to disable It's actually the 'qt5' USE flag for vlc that breaks full-screen. See https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=563458
