I know about that but I didn't expect it to be a problem in the short term because -r5 is still there and does have the flag. You probably have -r6 installed already and I thought perhaps you'd given the "update only" option to emerge but it looks like that option has gone; it was bad news. I thought it would otherwise downgrade to -r5 but it looks like I was wrong. I wanted to push this stuff through quickly so this gives me a solid excuse to stabilize -r7 ahead of time. I'll need to get the other revdeps sorted out too though so it'll need to wait till tonight.
Actually it might be less disruptive to just restore -r6. Assuming you have -r6 installed, could you please try this for me? cd /usr/portage/dev-java/antlr cp /var/db/pkg/dev-java/antlr-2.7.7-r6/antlr-2.7.7-r6.ebuild . repoman manifest Then emerge as before and let me know if it works.
(In reply to James Le Cuirot from comment #2) > cd /usr/portage/dev-java/antlr > cp /var/db/pkg/dev-java/antlr-2.7.7-r6/antlr-2.7.7-r6.ebuild . > repoman manifest > > Then emerge as before and let me know if it works. emerge still complains as before. Is it possible to bump the EAPI of the stringtemplate-3.2.1 ebuild to 4? Then COMMON_DEPEND=">=dev-java/antlr-2.7.7:0[java(+)]" would do the trick.
I've managed to reproduce this myself but what I didn't realise earlier was that Portage lets you continue anyway. It is therefore behaving the way I expected, it's just being a little noisy about it. Noise can be unsettling and I was therefore going to push this stuff through early but that's not going to be feasible. Regardless of whether I use the default USE trick you suggested (which I had already applied to some C++ revdeps) or just make the revdeps depend on the newer version, the rules say I need to make these changes in revbumps and those would then need to be stabilized. Stabilization can be a real PITA. ;) So the best I can do is make those revbumps but delay removal of the old version until everything can be stabilized. This should be enough to shut Portage up.
stringtemplate-3.2.1 and antlr-2.7.7-r7 are not stable anyway. Only testing is affected currently. Thus, I thought you revbump the testing package now, and have it ready to be stabilized together with antlr-2.7.7-r7 later.
dev-java/jaxme-0.5.2-r1 depends on antlr:0 with java flag so -r5 is called for while stringtemplate depends on antlr-r7 creating a blocker * dev-java/antlr-2.7.7-r5:0::gentoo Did not meet >=dev-java/antlr-2.7.7-r7:0, use existing if possible, installing to / from dev-java/stringtemplate-3.2.1-r1:0::gentoo * dev-java/antlr-2.7.7-r7:0::gentoo Did not meet dev-java/antlr:0[java], use existing if possible, installing to / from dev-java/jaxme-0.5.2-r1:0::gentoo Flag 'java' enabled Note: if I change jaxme ebuild to depend on antlr:0 without the java flag it builds with antlr-2.7.7-r7:0 with no problem.
(In reply to Harris Landgarten from comment #6) > dev-java/jaxme-0.5.2-r1 depends on antlr:0 with java flag so -r5 is called > for while stringtemplate depends on antlr-r7 creating a blocker Okay but what's pulling in stringtemplate? It's not jaxme.
stringtemplate:0 is pulled in by antlr sudo cave uninstall stringtemplate:0 Done: 3864 steps These are the actions I will take, in order: < dev-java/stringtemplate 3.2.1-r1:0::installed Reasons: target Total: 1 uninstalls I cannot proceed without being permitted to do the following: X dev-java/antlr 4.4:4::installed Will be broken by uninstalls: Reasons: dependent upon dev-java/stringtemplate-3.2.1-r1:0::installed (DEPEND), dependent upon dev-java/stringtemplate-3.2.1-r1:0::installed (RDEPEND) Cannot proceed without: --uninstalls-may-break or --remove-if-dependent
You might have needed antlr-4 for jdbc-jaybird or jabref but probably not. In the past hour, I have also pushed antlr-4.5.1, which now depends on stringtemplate-4 instead. This may help you out of this mess. There are still pitfalls but I have a stack of commits lined up that I actually did back in October to help deal with all of this. I got sidetracked and later realised I needed to get the antlr updates out the door first because I was struggling to keep up with the tree changes.
Thanks, I worked around by removing the java flag requirement from jaxme. I posted so you would know the mess is bigger but it seems you know already.
All sorted now!
