The emerge.log seems to be corrupt or a double-xz-compressed empty file (not sure which).

Assuming a duplicate of bug 562280. Please --sync and try again.

I have --sync my portage tree. The current version of freetype is 2.6.1-r1. The error persists. I have updated the emerge.log.
Comment 6 Ian Stakenvicius (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2015-10-09 02:34:22 UTC
log works now, thanks! (is a double-gzipped tarball for anyone else looking).
Comment 7 Ian Stakenvicius (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2015-10-09 19:35:10 UTC
well #1, I can't reproduce. but I'm also not running an ~arch system.

Can you check and see if, in '/var/tmp/portage/mail-client/thunderbird-38.3.0/work/comm-esr38/tbird/dist/system_wrappers' , there's a 'freetype' subdirectory that includes the 'ftfntfmt.h' file? The patch fixing the other bug should ensure this file exists, but if it still doesn't then there might be an issue elsewhere, perhaps with the python or perl modules/code that are used in the build system.

The file exists. Here is the content of this file:

#pragma GCC system_header
#pragma GCC visibility push(default)
#include_next <freetype/ftfntfmt.h>
#pragma GCC visibility pop

Should I run python-updater and perl-cleaner?

python-updater and perl-cleaner did not solve the problem.

yeah I didn't think they would make a difference.. The issue (if there is any at all) I think is with the actual code in the mozilla build system, not with the perl or python modules that exist elsewhere on your system.

Unfortunately I still cannot reproduce.

Have you disabled ccache and retested?
Comment 12 Jory A. Pratt gentoo-dev 2017-08-26 17:56:03 UTC
If you feel I have closed your bug and it is still a current issue, please reopen and update it completely. We will not work bugs that have no ebuild in tree any longer or can not be reproduced with a current system.

Thank You for your support and understanding
