I followed gentoo Hanbook PPC and at chapter "7.b. Installing the Sources - Choosing a Kernel" Code Listing 2: Installing a kernel source say: # emerge ppc-development-sources but now is (as Lu_Zero told me): # emerge gentoo-dev-sources Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.run # emerge -p ppc-development-source on iBook G4 933mhz Actual Results: These are the packages that I would merge, in order: Calculating dependencies emerge: there are no masked or unmasked ebuilds to satisfy "ppc-development-source". !!! Error calculating dependencies. Please correct Expected Results: Running: # emerge -p gentoo-dev-sources These are the packages that I would merge, in order: Calculating dependencies ...done! [ebuild N ] sys-kernel/gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r8
I believe the right names would be ppc-sources and ppc-dev-sources: # emerge -p ppc-sources ppc-dev-sources These are the packages that I would merge, in order: Calculating dependencies ...done! [ebuild N ] sys-kernel/ppc-sources-2.4.26-r1 [ebuild N ] sys-kernel/ppc-dev-sources-2.6
Short intervention: You can install sys-kernel/ppc-sources, sys-kernel/gentoo-dev-sources and sys-kernel/development-sources. ppc-dev-sources became obsolete with kernel 2.6.5. There are currently more little things, which need to be changed in the ppc-parts of the handbook. But I can't effort the time due to exams-stress. You should ask SeJo as he is in charge with the ppc-documentation.
Shouldn't ppc-sources-benh and ppc-sources-crypto be removed from the list? I don't see those in my Portage tree. How about mentioning ppc64-sources, pegasos-dev-sources and pegasos-sources ? Handbook says ppc-development-sources should be used for a networkless install. What's on the 2004.1 liveCD? Thanks for your feedback. PS:CC'ed to sejo but AFAIK he's busy packing to work in Luxemburg.
It should be checked and fixed on the upcoming 2004.2 Assigning back to the team to make sure it does not go unnoticed while I am away.
I currently review the handbook for the 2004.2 release, so that I can take care for this bug.
It's implemented in the new handbook.
