Can you check if the bug is still present in freetype-2.6?
Yes, I just checked - happens too with freetype-2.6.
Setting INFINALITY_FT_AUTOHINT_SNAP_STEM_HEIGHT to 0 avoids the crash. This corresponds to the "eselect lcdfilter" styles "vanilla", "osx" or "ubuntu".

I forgot one step to reproduce in the previous comment, after "emerge freetype": # eselect fontconfig enable 52-infinality.conf
=media-libs/freetype-2.6.3-r1 fixes the crash, and fixes other graphical glitches with some web fonts and infinality presets.
