Description ciaran 2015-06-04 00:16:31 UTC
I have installed versions 37 & 38 of www-apps/firefox, recently I noticed that firefox was locking up hard, and sometimes causing X to freeze as well (just once).

I used google, and tried to find possible issues related to gkdkeymap, and other related terms.

I found out that by removing the evince plugin, in /usr/lib64/nsbrowser/plugins
named - "libevbrowserplugin.so" cured the issues, as in there are no longer any lockups or errors given, like the ones I am reporting.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.open firefox (version 37.0.2, 38.0.1), in terminal
2.open several tabs, problem seems to be indepenedent of content
3.wait for a while, crash happens on own
Actual Results:
(firefox:<PID>): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: cannot register existing type 'GdkKeymap'

(firefox:<PID>): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_once_init_leave: assertion 'result != 0' failed

(firefox:<PID>): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_keymap_have_bidi_layouts: assertion 'GDK_IS_KEYMAP (keymap)' failed

Expected Results:
no crashing, none of the reported errors

libevbrowserplugin.so is causing =firefox-37/38 to lockup, on my gentoo xdm/i3/xorg 1.16 (nautilus installed) system. Nautilus and Evince have default use flags.

What other browser plugins do you have installed, and with what USE flags?

> Nautilus and Evince have default use flags.

Attach the output of "emerge --info evince" please. In theory the nsplugin USE flag should not be enabled by default...

*sorry about the mixup, first time using this system, wasn't sure what was going on for a few seconds so I just clicked on things.

Ah, I see now, you are on stable, and evince-3.14.2-r1 that fixes the issue is still in ~arch. We should stabilize it.
