The most recent stable release is version 3.3.7p1, released on February 15, 2015. Since this stabilization bug exists and is open, I figured it may be the right place to add the version bump request. If not, let me know and I will open a new bug.
What is the showstopper here? Any help needed?

amanda-3.4 was released upstream and the Release Notes show quite some changes. I will try to come up with a working ebuild in the next days.
While I am at trying to write the ebuild for 3.4 ( https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=599476 ) I also cleaned up the files-dir a bit. There are files in ther which aren't needed anymore for 3.3.9 and 3.4 For 3.3.9 and 3.4 these files are enough (renamed amanda.service-r1 -> amanda.service and edited ebuild accordingly): # ls -1 files/ amanda-3.3.9-stuck.patch amanda-3.4-ssl.patch amanda-amandahosts-client-2.5.1_p3-r1 amanda-amandahosts-server-2.5.1_p3-r1 amanda-cron amanda-inetd.amanda.sample-2.6.0_p2-r2 amanda-profile amanda.service amanda.socket amanda-xinetd-2.6.1_p1-client amanda-xinetd-2.6.1_p1-server example_amanda.conf example_disklist-2.5.1_p3-r1 example_global.conf For sure they also could be renamed and modernized ... (eg. new examples etc)

upstream is at 3.4.1 already, just to update this year old bug I am running local ebuilds of 3.4.1 at a few sites successfully so far. I suggest to stabilize 3.3.9 and add 3.4.1 as unstable.
