Is libxfce4ui 4.10.0 installed? Run emerge -1 libxfce4ui and then retry. Let me know if it works.
Yes, libxfce4ui is installed, but I've rebuilt it anyway and retried, but still no dice, I'm afraid. FWIW xfce-base/libxfce4ui-4.12.1 is the version of libxfce4ui installed. xfwm4-settings.c: In function ‘xfwm_settings_validate_shortcut’: xfwm4-settings.c:1977:53: warning: passing argument 1 of ‘xfce_shortcut_conflict_dialog’ from incompatible pointer type [enabled by default] FALSE); ^ In file included from /usr/include/xfce4/libxfce4kbd-private-2/libxfce4kbd-private/xfce-shortcut-dialog.h:26:0, from xfwm4-settings.c:44: /usr/include/xfce4/libxfce4kbd-private-2/libxfce4kbd-private/xfce-shortcuts.h:29:10: note: expected ‘struct GtkWindow *’ but argument is of type ‘const gchar *’ gboolean xfce_shortcut_conflict_dialog (GtkWindow *parent, ^ xfwm4-settings.c:1977:53: error: too few arguments to function ‘xfce_shortcut_conflict_dialog’ FALSE); ^ In file included from /usr/include/xfce4/libxfce4kbd-private-2/libxfce4kbd-private/xfce-shortcut-dialog.h:26:0, from xfwm4-settings.c:44: /usr/include/xfce4/libxfce4kbd-private-2/libxfce4kbd-private/xfce-shortcuts.h:29:10: note: declared here gboolean xfce_shortcut_conflict_dialog (GtkWindow *parent, ^ Makefile:631: recipe for target 'xfwm4_settings-xfwm4-settings.o' failed
After manually upgrading xfwm4 and xfce4-settings, I was able to get emerge @preserved-rebuild to run successfully. sudo emerge --oneshot ">xfce-base/xfwm4-4.10.1" ">xfce-base/xfce4-settings-4.10.1" sudo etc-update sudo emerge --oneshot ">xfce-base/xfwm4-4.10.1" ">xfce-base/xfce4-settings-4.10.1" sudo emerge @preserved-rebuild Not sure if this is still deemed as a "bug" or not?
You were mixing stable and unstable (4.10 and 4.12). Xfwm 4.10 doesn't play well with libxfce4ui 4.12. ;) I guess this means we can close the bug.
It would seem that the mix of stable and unstable was causing issues, but it wasn't a conscious decision of mine to install unstable, so I'm not sure where that's come from. It's on a fresh install too...
When trying to downgrade libxfce4ui to 4.10, it seems garcon-0.5.0 needs >=libxfce4ui-4.11.1: joe@Joe-Car-Laptop ~ $ sudo emerge -1 =xfce-base/libxfce4ui-4.10.0 These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! [ebuild UD ] xfce-base/libxfce4ui-4.10.0 [4.11.1] !!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled !!! into the dependency graph, resulting in a slot conflict: xfce-base/libxfce4ui:0 (xfce-base/libxfce4ui-4.10.0:0/0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by =xfce-base/libxfce4ui-4.10.0 (Argument) (xfce-base/libxfce4ui-4.11.1:0/0::gentoo, installed) pulled in by >=xfce-base/libxfce4ui-4.11.1:= required by (xfce-base/garcon-0.5.0:0/0::gentoo, installed) ^^ ^^^^^^ (and 3 more with the same problem) So that explains why libxfce4ui-4.10.0 wasn't installed, but not why libxfce4ui-4.12.1 was. I've downgraded from unstable to 4.11, which I'm assuming is stable? joe@Joe-Car-Laptop ~ $ equery list libxfce4ui * Searching for libxfce4ui ... Xfce 4.10 is the current stable. Garcon should be around 0.2 if I remember this correct. 4.11 is upstream development and 4.12 is new upstream stable. Check your /etc/portage/keywords (or accept_keywords). Check https://packages.gentoo.org/package/xfce-base/garcon
Ok, looks like I've sorted it out now - I have Xfce back to 4.10 stable: joe@Joe-Car-Laptop ~ $ equery list *xfce* | grep "4.1[0-3]" dev-util/xfce4-dev-tools-4.10.0 xfce-base/libxfce4ui-4.10.0 xfce-base/libxfce4util-4.10.1 xfce-base/xfce4-appfinder-4.10.1 xfce-base/xfce4-meta-4.10 xfce-base/xfce4-panel-4.10.1 xfce-base/xfce4-session-4.10.1-r2 xfce-base/xfce4-settings-4.10.1 xfce-extra/xfce4-mixer-4.10.0
