Description cflynch 2015-04-17 17:58:23 UTC
I recently updated dev-python/rpy to version 2.5.6. When I attempt to import the rpy2.robjects submodule I receive an error. Apparently the system now requires singledispatch as a base requirement.

This is for dev-lang/python-2.7.7

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install dev-python/rpy-2.5.6 on dev-lang/python-2.7.7
2. Start python and call the following import: "import rpy2.robjects"
The call "import rpy2" does not trigger this error.
Actual Results:
Python 2.7.7 (default, Sep 16 2014, 14:21:39)
[GCC 4.7.3] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import rpy2.robjects
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
  File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/rpy2/robjects/__init__.py", line 18, in <module>
    from rpy2.robjects.robject import RObjectMixin, RObject
  File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/rpy2/robjects/robject.py", line 7, in <module>
    from . import conversion
  File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/rpy2/robjects/conversion.py", line 13, in <module>
    from singledispatch import singledispatch
ImportError: No module named singledispatch

Installation of virtual/python-singledispatch and dev-python/singledispatch fixes the problem.

I recommend that the ebuild for dev-python/rpy be amended to include that as a requirement when the python target is less than 3.4 which includes singledispatch as a core component.
