Description Chris Smith 2015-03-27 22:53:43 UTC
OK, admittedly I don't where this problem is but it's either with systemd, util-linux, or the kernel but for some reason I can no longer loop mount any ISO files.

It looks like the mount command works but then nothing gets mounted.
dmesg shows:
=====================
ISO 9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet Level 3
ISO 9660 Extensions: RRIP_1991A
=====================
However journalctl reports:
=====================
Unit mnt-loop.mount is bound to inactive unit
=====================
systemd[1]: Unit mnt-loop.mount is bound to inactive unit. Stopping, too.
=====================

Be happy to provide anything else needed.

Reproducible: Always

Messed up that journal log entry.. it's:
====================================
ISO 9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet Level 3
ISO 9660 Extensions: RRIP_1991A
systemd[1]: Unit mnt-loop.mount is bound to inactive unit. Stopping, too.

Comment 2 Mike Gilbert gentoo-dev 2015-03-27 22:59:05 UTC
Exactly what command(s) are you using to mount it?
Comment 3 Chris Smith 2015-03-27 23:12:20 UTC
Sorry... here's a full log report of what happens when I attempt to loop mount an ISO file:
======================================================
Mar 27 19:08:58 sartre systemd[729]: Unit mnt-loop.mount is bound to inactive unit. Stopping, too.

Mar 27 19:08:58 sartre systemd[1]: Unit mnt-loop.mount is bound to inactive unit. Stopping, too.
Mar 27 19:08:58 sartre systemd[1]: Unmounting /mnt/loop...
Mar 27 19:08:58 sartre systemd[729]: mnt-loop.mount mount process exited, code=exited status=1
Mar 27 19:08:58 sartre systemd[729]: Unmounted /mnt/loop.
Mar 27 19:08:58 sartre systemd[729]: Unit mnt-loop.mount entered failed state.
Mar 27 19:08:58 sartre umount[14025]: umount: /mnt/loop: not mounted
Mar 27 19:08:58 sartre systemd[1]: Unmounted /mnt/loop.
======================================================

It appears that right after recognizing the file type it is immediately umounted (if indeed it was actually mounted).

> Exactly what command(s) are you using to mount it?

One actual example:
mount -o loop /mnt/saved/ISO/Linux/Debian/debian-7.5.0-amd64-netinst.iso /mnt/loop/

But I've tried many different ISO files and have always been able to do this in the past.
