Description marco 2015-02-19 11:19:46 UTC
I have a system with dev-lang/php-5.3.29 installed.

After update dev-db/mysql-5.6.22 from dev-db/mysql-5.5.40 the php 5.3 triggers a warning like this:
PHP Warning: mysql_connect(): Headers and client library minor version mismatch. Headers:50540 Library:50622 in ....

I know that this is a warning but i expected a rebuild for php 5.3 .
why the update did't triggered a rebuild for php 5.3 ?

Can someone explain what trigger a rebuild of the same version of a package A after an update of other package B when package A depend on package B ?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Install dev-lang/php:53 and dev-db/mysql-5.5.x
2.update dev-db/mysql to dev-db/mysql-5.6-x
3.test mysql_connect() in php 5.3

Expected Results:
The update of mysql version rebuilds the php-5.3

2) Please post the entire output.

The reason behind no rebuild being triggered *might* be that virtual/mysql-5.5 was EAPI=4, so no sublots...
Not sure about it though.

I notice the problem on our server with getbinpkg but there is the same problem also on the builder host .

Comment 4 Brian Evans Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev 2015-02-20 13:28:55 UTC
There is nothing that PHP or mysql team can do.

The warning does not hurt any calls to the database.

You can do one of three things:

1) use the mysqlnd driver which does not depend on mysql headers. USE=mysqlnd on php5.3, or USE=-libmysqlclient on php5.4+ (recommended)
2) Rebuild php 5.3 as is
3) Upgrade to a higher PHP version which will not depend on the headers by default

I highly suggest you plan for upgrading to a newer version than 5.3.
The PHP team will be masking it for security issues ( bug 533998 ) as soon as we can.
