I have the same bug here with vmware-workstation-4.5.1.7568-r1.ebuild.

If I change the md5sum and the file size of vmware-any-any-update69.tar.gz in files/digest-vmware-workstation-4.5.1.7568-r1 it works fine.

I think this bug has nothing to do with bug 53431 (vmware-config.pl errors out with various errors) because it stops at the installation not the configuration - but I'm not sure (new to Gentoo), can somebody check that?

Read the bottom of that bug...

Also, emerge sync and try again... I fixed this a few hours after the original commit. I found the problem fairly quickly, but had forgotten to commit it to CVS. More than likely, you're running from the unfixed version of the ebuild.
