Builds fine for me with stable amd64. The only difference in the build up to the error on your system is:

< checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/lib/portage/python3.3/ebuild-helpers/xattr/install -c
---
> checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
21c21
< checking dependency style of x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc... gcc3

> checking dependency style of x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc... none

Hhm, I took a look into /var/log/messages of the hardened host - but there were no issues related to that emerge run (BTW the chroot is an unstable hardened amd64 too - maybe the culprit ?)
Comment 3 Mr. Bones. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2014-12-01 18:36:22 UTC
heh. ok, so I did strndup -> l_strndup, so resync and try it again.
