Deadline (optional): 2014/11/28 Priority: High Amount requested: Approximately 1840 Euro. Funding type and duration: One-time Requesters: ----------- Robin Johnson (robbat2), as Infra lead & Foundation Infra Officer Ruud Koolen (redlizard), as boots-on-ground in NL Funding disbursement: --------------------- - Where possible, will be purchased with Foundation Amex. See (AMEX) below. - Some items will be purchased by reimbursing redlizard, see (redlizard) below. Problem: -------- Hyves.NL donated 6 good Dell servers to Gentoo; we have them in our possession now, but they need some upgrades, and they need to be shipped to the hosting that we have arranged in Stockholm. Solution: --------- Buying stuff and shipping. We tried to find hosting closer to the Netherlands, but nothing could be confirmed. We could also not buy the upgrades, but the servers are more useful with them. Justification: -------------- Hyves.NL used to host all of Bugzilla and wiki. We have temporarily moved those services to Gossamer Threads (where the servers are also hosting Forums), but that doesn't leave any room for growth, and the Gossamer servers are quite old. Itemized expense list: ---------------------- Upgrades ======== + E300.00: RAID BBU replacement (pending price from Dell NL) (AMEX/redlizard) + E475.80: 4x Samsung 840 EVO SSD, 256GB [1] (AMEX) + E609.00: 7x Western Digital Harddisk 2.5" Blue 1TB, SATA600, 7mm [2] (AMEX) + E93.00: 10x Dell Disk Sleds [3] (redlizard) = E1477.80 subtotal Transportation ============== + E28.03, redlizard's expense in picking up servers from Hyves in Amsterdam (redlizard) + E61.06, packaging materials (redlizard) + E273.65, shipping Netherlands to Sweden with insurance (AMEX/redlizard) = E362.74 subtotal = 1840.54 final total Note: 1 item estimated price only Supporting information: ----------------------- [1] https://www.4launch.nl/shop/#p-4-productid-142757 [2] https://www.4launch.nl/shop/#p-4-productid-142432 [3] http://www.ebay.nl/itm/x/161329096434

Samsung 840 EVO SSDs have a firmware bug where they advertise a feature they don't have and the kernel generates logspam trying to use it. It was on lkml. Samsung were unresponsive. From memory, the kernel falls back correctly. I can't find the lkml thread :( If this firmware bug is not an issue, I'm good with this entire expenditure. I only bring up this firmware bug to allow the opportunity to choose other SSDs.

The SSDs are behind a HWRAID controller, so probably will never be seen directly. Even if they are, logspam isn't a concern, we get lots of grsec logspam every day (and filter it for items of interest). I've got a 10-disk HWRAID10 of the 840 EVO's at work already, and I'm happy with it.

Thanks, Going ahead with purchases.
Dell Drive caddys ordered on Ebay.NL. paid with Foundation paypal account, shipping directly to redlizard's address per Infra wiki (with his name on the order). Geschatte levertijd: do. 4 dec. - di. 9 dec.
BBUs are ordered from Dell. Paid via Foundation Paypal again; details forwarded to trustees@, redlizard@.
Based on the Dell system really mangling the order (See email); I want redlizard to help make sure the account details at 4Launch are correct (also that he was going to make it a local pickup).
All ordered upgrades have arrived and have been paid for. All that remains is shipping.
Created attachment 395746 [details] Receipts for fuel expenses Our original hosting plan did not work out, so we switched plans and arranged for hosting in Germany instead. Rather than shipping the servers there, I delivered them in person. Alex Legler (a3li), our contact for the new sponsor, also went. My expenses for fuel in both collecting the servers at hyves.nl and delivering them to the hosting sponsor come down to E111.23, see attached receipts. The pre-bought packaging materials have become unnecessary, but they will come to good use for me anyway, so I will eat the costs for that.
I have reimbursed redlizard from the Foundation paypal account, and emailed trustees to confirm that.
Created attachment 397098 [details] a3li's expenses

I have reimbursed a3li via paypal. That puts the final costs for this bug: E1090.46 - SSD/disk (paypal to EU trustee, EU bank payment thereafter) E5.45 - Paypal fees on ssd/disk E318.16 - Dell BBU (paypal, no fees) E89.76 - disk sleds (paypal, no fee) E111.23 - redlizard (paypal) E1.35 - paypal fees re redlizard E73.76 - a3li (paypal) E1.48 - paypal fees to a3li Total: E1691.65
My auditing shows there was one missing line item in the final summary: Replacement Motherboard @ EUR 158,25 It was in the reimbursement to redlizard and documented in Trustees email Message-ID: <robbat2-20150220T023817-623497000Z@orbis-terrarum.net> Puts the corrected total at EUR 1849.90 (vs the original 1840 est and the updated 1860 estimate)
