Description Martin Wegner 2014-11-03 17:03:43 UTC
After upgrade to =dev-python/paramiko-1.15.1, =dev-python/fabric-1.10.0 is broken. When trying to run any fabric command I get the following error, e. g.:

% fab sync:auto,local
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/python-exec/python2.7/fab", line 5, in <module>
    from pkg_resources import load_entry_point
  File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/pkg_resources.py", line 2880, in <module>
    working_set = WorkingSet._build_master()
  File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/pkg_resources.py", line 434, in _build_master
    return cls._build_from_requirements(__requires__)
  File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/pkg_resources.py", line 447, in _build_from_requirements
    dists = ws.resolve(reqs, Environment())
  File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/pkg_resources.py", line 626, in resolve
    raise DistributionNotFound(req)
pkg_resources.DistributionNotFound: ecdsa>=0.11

After downgrading to =dev-python/paramiko-1.13.0, everything works again as expected:

% fab sync:auto,local
[localhost] local: [...]

Comment 1 Ian Delaney (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2014-11-06 03:30:13 UTC
It seems in the big gap between 1.13.0 to 1.15.1 a border limit has been introduced to paramiko, and it uses quite old version making this an accident waiting to happen.

  06 Nov 2014; Ian Delaney <idella4@gentoo.org> fabric-1.9.1.ebuild:
  Set required bordering to dep paramiko, fixes Bug #528154
Comment 2 Martin Wegner 2014-11-06 16:58:02 UTC
Thanks for the fix.

But unfortunately, this still does not work for me, since I have =fabric-1.10.0 installed, as reported. I would appreciate if you could fix it for that version as well, thanks!

is bigger problem than one package

Comment 5 Ondřej Súkup 2014-11-11 13:31:59 UTC
Problem is missing _version.py in /usr/lib/pyhon../site-packages/ecdsa
Comment 6 Tomáš Chvátal (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2014-11-11 13:48:27 UTC
Reopening per previous comments.
Comment 7 Guillaume Ayoub 2014-11-18 09:11:19 UTC
Same bug for me. Fabric even stopped working with paramiko < 1.15 with some servers because of https://github.com/fabric/fabric/issues/1212

I've tried to add _version.py in /usr/lib/pyhon../site-packages/ecdsa, and I now have:
>>> import ecdsa
>>> ecdsa.__version__
'0.11'

But I still get "pkg_resources.DistributionNotFound: ecdsa>=0.11" with Fabric. Any quick and dirty solution?
Comment 8 Guillaume Ayoub 2014-11-21 14:21:20 UTC
ecdsa-0.11-r1 has been released and fixes the bug for me.
Comment 9 Martin Wegner 2014-11-25 16:46:16 UTC
I can confirm that this is also solved for me with dev-python/ecdsa-0.11-r1 . Even further, I think the upper border dependency for paramiko should be lifted again. With paramiko-1.12.2, I now got the following error when trying to run a task on an ArchLinux host:

Executing task 'foo'

Warning: Incompatible ssh peer (no acceptable kex algorithm)

Underlying exception:
    Incompatible ssh peer (no acceptable kex algorithm)

According to [0], this was fixed with paramiko-1.15.1, so after removing the RDEPEND

	<dev-python/paramiko-1.13[${PYTHON_USEDEP}]

from fabric-1.10.0 ebuild, and upgrading to paramiko-1.15.1 running of tasks on all remote hosts works again for me.

How did you reach this conclusion? The error message clearly states a problem with the ecdsa version; nothing to do with paramiko.
