Description Joakim Tjernlund 2014-10-18 15:52:22 UTC
Every now and then I see
 Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "gnomesegvhandler"
because gnomesegvhandler defaults to true in gnome-base/gconf
Since bug-buddy more or less dead, could we just default
gnomesegvhandler to off?

Easiest would be to to run
gconftool-2 --direct --config-source xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults \
--type bool --set /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/gtk-modules/gnomesegvhandler false

in gnome-base/gconf pkg_postinst()

I see no reference to gnomesegvhandler in /etc/Gconf files, neither in gconf sources. What app are you using to get that warnings? Also post "emerge --info" "emerge -Opv gnome-settings-daemon gconf" outputs
Comment 2 Joakim Tjernlund 2014-10-18 17:56:49 UTC
I do:

grep -r segv /etc/gconf
/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults/%gconf-tree.xml:					<stringvalue>/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/gtk-modules/gnomesegvhandler</stringvalue>
/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults/%gconf-tree.xml:				<entry name="gnomesegvhandler" mtime="1413641570" schema="/schemas/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/gtk-modules/gnomesegvhandler" type="bool" value="false"/>
/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults/%gconf-tree.xml:					<entry name="gnomesegvhandler" mtime="1369572691" type="schema" stype="bool" owner="gnome">

sometimes emacs depending on what machine I work on.

What does
gconftool-2 --direct --config-source xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults
 --get /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/gtk-modules/gnomesegvhandler

tell you?
Comment 6 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2014-10-18 18:13:54 UTC
$ LC_ALL=C gconftool-2 --direct --config-source xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults --get /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/gtk-modules/gnomesegvhandler
No value set for `/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/gtk-modules/gnomesegvhandler'

You forgot "emerge -Opv gnome-settings-daemon gconf" output

Comment 8 Joakim Tjernlund 2014-10-19 09:56:18 UTC
I think I know why I got this, all our systems had bug-buddy installed
at some point. Then /etc/gconf/schemas/bug-buddy.schemas got into
/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults/%gconf-tree.xml which adds:
<schema>
      <key>/schemas/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/gtk-modules/gnomesegvhandler</key>
      <applyto>/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/gtk-modules/gnomesegvhandler</applyto>
      <owner>gnome</owner>
      <type>bool</type>
      <default>true</default>
      <locale name="C">
        <short>GTK+ module for crash collection support.</short>
        <long>This key determines the GTK+ module to load for crash collection
        support.</long>
      </locale>
</schema>
Notice the <default>true</default>

Now it there forever it seems?

@gnome, how should we clean old entries? :/
