Description Peter Harpending 2014-09-30 22:04:33 UTC
I have mail-client/alpine compiled with USE=passfile enabled, yet, even after checking & sending mail many times, I am still faced with a password prompt whenever I open my inbox, or send an email. ~/.pine-passfile is empty.

Here is the output of "equery -C u mail-client/alpine"

+chappa
-doc
+ipv6
-kerberos
+ldap
+nls
-onlyalpine
+passfile
-smime
+spell
+ssl
-threads
-topal

Thanks in advance.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install alpine with USE=passfile
2. Log in to a (gmail) account, send & receive a few emails, giving your password every time.

Actual Results:
~/.pine-passfile is completely empty.

Expected Results:
~/.pine-passfile would be populated with saved passwords

Comment 2 Jeremi Piotrowski 2015-10-01 12:31:37 UTC
The default password file in the gentoo version of alpine is ~/.pinepwd, not ~/.pine-passfile. The relevant part of the ebuild is line 81:

    $(use_with passfile passfile .pinepwd)\

You also need to create an empty password file first (touch) before alpine will save passwords to it.

This could be mentioned in postinstallation notes:

pkg_postinst() {
	if use passfile; then
		elog "To use the passfile functionality create an empty file"
 		elog "named .pinepwd in your home directory."
	fi
}

I suggest closing this bug as invalid.
