Description Stefan Briesenick (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-05-26 14:56:33 UTC
I tried to setup my EPSON Stylus C84 with gimp-print/foomatic/cups (recommended driver for this printer!). The PPD is available and installed by gimp-print. But I can't print. Then I found out, that the 'stp' driver ist not included in my 'gs' installation.

hmpf. Ok, I checked the ebuild of ghostscript-7.07.1-r2 then and found that:

    myconf="--with-ijs --with-omni --without-gimp-print"

hmpf!!!! ;-)

I edited the ebuild and fixed it to "--with-gimp-print" for a first test.
Ok, it builds w/o problems. Now we have a 'stp' enabled and working ghostscript.

Next check: printing ;-)

Result: IT WORKS PERFECTLY!!!!

So please tell me, why gimp-print is disabled?!?!

Please enable it ASAP! Thanks!

Reproducible: Always

every stp driver is also available as ijs driver,stp is obsolete and thus not included.
Comment 2 Stefan Briesenick (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-05-27 02:45:07 UTC
hmmm. if this is true, why is the stp-driver "recommended" and not the ijs-driver? gimp-print installs both PPDs. One for the ijs-driver and one for the stp-driver.

ok, if the ijs-driver works, and you disable the stp-drivers, then also remove the PPDs for stp! That is confusing and gives you such BugZillas! ;-)

I reopen this bug, because this ebuild needs either an "einfo"-message about the not working PPDs oder a remove-function for the obsolete PPDs (preferred solution).

i thought i removed all PPD's for stp, but it didn't. that's fixed now .

great, I'll check it.
