Due to bug# 40469, I haven't had a media player to play RealAudio files for a while. With the release of Real Player 10 Alpha, I have created an ebuild based off of the helixplayer-bin ebuild that installs Real Player 10 Alpha. The license that the software is distributed under is the "Helix DNA Technology Binary Research Use License" which I will upload as an attachment. Additionally, redistribution is not permitted, so this ebuild has a fetch restriction. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:

A tar file of the complete ebuild, suitable for use in the Portage Overlay can be downloaded from: http://varnerfamily.org/pvarner/gentoo/realplayer-bin-0.3.0.120.ebuild.tar.gz
Version 0.4.0.186 is out now! https://helixcommunity.org/beula/download?loc=/download.php/464/realplay-0.4.0.186-linux-2.2-libc6-gcc32-i586.tar.bz2

This works well - but I get an error, if I try and change the program I am listening to at bbc.co.uk/radio. For example, open Radio 2 - and listening live appears and works fine (Better than ever) - but click on a different program and it says something about "hxplay not in the path" and then you can't listen again without closing firefox completely.
I'm using firefox with realplayer-bin-0.4.0.186 and I'm not able to reproduce the problem that you are seeing with BBC Radio.
Hmm. I hate unreproducable problems! :( If it helps: swat 22761 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? Z 14:22 0:00 [realplay] <defunct> swat 22783 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? Z 14:22 0:00 [realplay] <defunct> swat 22794 0.0 0.8 9832 4276 ? S 14:22 0:00 /opt/RealPlayer/realplay.bin --embedded 36 --callbacks 38 I have that little lot running when it doesn't work, and killing the third realplay.bin makes no difference at all. Do the video previews for things like eastenders etc. work as well for you?
*** Bug 48416 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
I finally got the error that you were seeing on BBC Radio. I found a bug report at https://bugs.helixcommunity.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2485 which stated that they had been unable to reproduce the problem. I reopened the bug and added my comments to it.
There is also a PPC version available now which runs quite fine. Would you mind adding ~ppc to the ebuild? SRC_URI for ARCH=ppc is: http://forms.helixcommunity.org/helixdnaclient/index.html?filename=20040715/player_all-bingo-beta-20040715-linux-2.2-libc6-gcc32-powerpc/hxplay-0.9.0.254-linux-2.2-libc6-gcc32-powerpc.tar.bz2 which is the latest tarball for PPC. Otherwise everything else should stay the same. Thanks a lot.
Sorry, got the SCR_URI link wrong, it should be: http://forms.helixcommunity.org/helixdnaclient/index.html?filename=20040715/player_all_real-bingo-beta-20040715-linux-2.2-libc6-gcc32-powerpc/realplay-9.9.0.253-linux-2.2-libc6-gcc32-powerpc.tar.bz2
Created attachment 35529 [details] realplayer-bin-0.4.0.186-r1.ebuild (~x86 & ~ppc) The realplayer-bin-0.4.0.186-r1.ebuild adds support for PPC architecture. I will also be attaching a PPC only ebuild based off of the latest nightly build. I was able to verify that the realplayer-bin-0.4.0.186-r1.ebuild would install correctly for both x86 and ppc. However, I was unable to do any verification for the realplayer-bin-9.9.0.253.ebuild based off of the PPC nightly build. I haven't updated the ebuild tar file on my web site yet, but will do so sometime tommorow. I would prefer not to build ebuilds for the nightly builds, since the corresponding build for x86 was semi-broken when I tried to use it.

Note that 1.0 gold is released now. https://helixcommunity.org/project/showfiles.php?group_id=154
Looks as if a period slipped in. 10 gold, that is.
Created attachment 36682 [details] realplayer-bin-10.0.0.297.ebuild Well I see they did away with the .tar.bz2 versions, thanks goes to liquidx for the rpm eclass. Additionally for the x86 version, they took the version# out of the filename. This ebuild has support for the ppc architecture, but is completely untested by me since I only have x86 boxes.
Created attachment 36684 [details] Helix DNA Technology Binary Research Use License Submitting the license from the latest version to ensure that we have the most up to date copy of the license.
Final spam from me for tonight. x86 users can grab a tar file containing the complete ebuild suitable for PORTAGE_OVERLAY at http://varnerfamily.org/pvarner/gentoo/realplayer-bin.ebuild.tar.gz
Woh woh woh, this is realplayer, not helix. This is a totally different license, this should NOT be commited to the tree until we've approached real, signed a license agreement that we have sucessfully Quality Checked Real Player on our distro. I've already contacted real and that's what they have said. I've yet to hear anything about the checks however, so I will send a followup email about it when I return from LWE.
Created attachment 38727 [details] realplayer-bin-10.0.1.366.ebuild Updated ebuild for RealPlayer 10.0.1a (alpha) x86 only. tar file at http://varnerfamily.org/pvarner/gentoo/realplayer-bin.ebuild.tar.gz updated as well. What do we need to do to get this officially into the tree?
Created attachment 38797 [details] Real Player 10 Gold Ebuild Ok folks, this will be the ebuild to use. I've found a test case for realplayer, and here it is: https://helixcommunity.org/docman/view.php/154/4/testplan_helixplayer.html for right now, skip the gui and bin installs (as portage does all this for us :). I'm fairly sure that we're going to have to go through a testplan such as this in order to sign the binary distrobution agreement. Legal stuff still needs to be addressed, and I've phoned Kevin at Real and eagerly await his call. But as I said, please test and test and test this :).
Created attachment 39358 [details] small fix for rp10 This ebuild fixes a small bug in the old one with respect to the mozilla plugin. In the old ebuild, the following (invalid) symlink is created: rpnp.so -> opt/RealPlayer10/rpnp.so This appears to be a holdover from rp8; with rp10, the following symlink should (and is, with this ebuild) be created: nphelix.so -> /opt/RealPlayer10/mozilla/nphelix.so
Yay! I finally got the legal docs from real, happiness ensues! Ok, so here's the deal: I'm working with the gentoo trustees who handle the legal signing of all binary or whatever agreements. I'm working with another real person to get the stability checking going, I'll be using this bug to put up the test case so we all can have fun in testing it. Thanks for everyone's patience in dealing with this crazy dev ;). I hope to get this thing rolling to an end soon...
Chris: Can we get a status update on this?
As smoothly as I thought things were going, it seems that upstream has become a little slower in responding to me :|. I'm RE sending an email to the last person I need to contact too. If I don't get anything in 1 week, I'll start getting a tad more relentless (I don't like doing that, but I'm really starting to get irked by this wait). I hope to have something soon.
RealPlayer 10.0.2 Gold was just released. Could we have a version bump?
Not sure if this relates, helps, or hinders, but I thought I would mention that the RPM based -bin ebuild at bug #59281 works fine on my [Linux 2.6.9, GNOME 2.8.2 ish] system. AfC Sydney
Real player 1.0.3 is already in portage.
