Description Richard Connon 2014-07-30 23:16:15 UTC
gentoo-sources-3.14.14 has just been marked stable on amd64
=sys-firmware/iwl7260-ucode-23.214.9.0 is the recommended firmware to use with this kernel
No firmware compatible with this card/kernel is included in the stable linux-firmware ebuild (=linux-firmware-20131230).

I have been testing this firmware version with many 3.14.x and 3.15.x kernels for some time. Seems to operate flawlessly.

Reproducible: Always
Comment 1 Mark Wright gentoo-dev 2014-08-05 11:10:24 UTC
I think the ebuild can be made stable.

I could only test the firmware occasionally on a machine on loan. In my
tests I found often when I booted gentoo-sources 3.15.5 (and with earlier
kernel versions) that often on boot, the intel wifi drivers would go into
and infinite loop of failures to load the firmware, and this happened
with this firmware version, and the previous 2 firmware releases (i.e. with
every available firmware release). The only workaround was to reboot
and try again, sometimes it would work. Since I don't own the hardware
I can't help with providing information to debug that problem.
Comment 2 Thomas Kear 2014-09-07 20:09:10 UTC
Should probably be noted that a new version 25.222.9.0 has been released, which may affect stabilisation decisions.

If there's anything I can do to help test please get in touch, running dual-band N version (7260HMW AN).
Comment 3 Richard Connon 2014-09-07 22:56:56 UTC
Furthermore 25.222.9.0 is now the recommended version for kernel 3.14+ (currently marked stable on amd64)
I will move to testing this version now.
Comment 4 Mark Wright gentoo-dev 2014-11-17 14:02:16 UTC
Julian Simioni and David Flogeras provided an update to 25.228.9.0 and tested
it, maybe that might work better.
Comment 5 Richard Connon 2014-11-17 14:19:51 UTC
25.228.9.0 is the version I'm now using on my laptop. As above I've seen no problems with this version but it's not even in ~arch yet.
I don't have my ebuild to hand but it's just a version number change from the existing one.
Comment 6 Mark Wright gentoo-dev 2014-11-17 22:40:32 UTC
Changed Summary from:
sys-firmware/iwl7260-ucode-23.214.9.0 stable request
to
sys-firmware/iwl7260-ucode-25.228.9.0 stable request

sys-firmware/iwl7260-ucode-25.228.9.0 has only just been added to ~arch.
This ebuild was provided by users, we have 3 reports that 25.228.9.0 works well.
I do not have the hardware to test it. I tested earlier versions with loaner
hardware earlier and encountered problems (as noted in comment 1).
Comment 7 Mads 2014-12-09 18:37:51 UTC
23.10.10.0 has just been released too, you need this for 3.17+

Weird versioning scheme...
Comment 8 Richard Connon 2014-12-19 08:14:59 UTC
23.10.10.0 includes the iwlwifi-7260-10.ucode firmware (rather than -9) so it can be a new slot
Comment 9 Mark Wright gentoo-dev 2015-01-14 12:32:06 UTC
The version numbers are now reversed in portage - as I just learned
that upstream have their version numbers in reverse.
Comment 10 Agostino Sarubbo gentoo-dev 2015-02-19 11:05:11 UTC
This request cannot be completed because of the following repoman error(s):

  sys-firmware/iwl7260-ucode/iwl7260-ucode-0.9.228.25.ebuild: RDEPEND:
amd64(default/linux/amd64/13.0) ['sys-firmware/iwl3160-7260-bt-ucode']

Since the amd64 team is unable to continue this task, I'm removing the amd64 arch team from the CC field. Feel free to cc the amd64 arch team again when you provide the complete list of the missing dependencies.
Comment 11 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2015-06-01 10:18:59 UTC
what are the versions to get stabilized finally?
Comment 12 Richard Connon 2015-06-01 11:12:49 UTC
According to http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi/ we should be using 0.10.11.23 for kernels 3.17+
Since kernel 3.18.2 is stable on all arches this would probably be the version to stabilise.
Comment 13 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2016-05-06 10:58:05 UTC
Please provide the list of versions to stabilize and CC arches to finally get this stable :)
