Description mike 2014-07-25 16:05:52 UTC
Graph tool fails compiling, specifically on object file .libs/graph_pagerank.o.
The error message ist: "virtual memory exhausted: Cannot allocate memory".
It's known that this compilation needs a lot of memory but there *is* enough of that:

total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 7879 2408 5470 69 334 1317
-/+ buffers/cache: 756 7122
Swap: 5046 0 5046

Some forums made proposals to disable some compilation steps but..well..

Comment 2 Alex Xu (Hello71) 2014-07-25 16:26:03 UTC
you are running 32-bit gcc which only has access to 3 GB RAM.

try disabling -pipe, and obviously -j8, and try again. if that does not work, you will have to compile using 64-bit gcc.
Comment 3 mike 2014-07-25 17:43:57 UTC
Hmm PAE and high memory support in kernel should get aroung the 3GB-limitation (which is actually present) and "-j" just sets the amount of parallel compilations but I'll give it a try.
Comment 4 mike 2014-07-26 07:28:49 UTC
Disabling pipe and -j didn't change anything but switching to sys-devel/gcc-4.8.3 worked fine. Seems like they've reduced the amount of compile time memory.
Comment 5 Alex Xu (Hello71) 2014-07-26 12:07:33 UTC
Maybe.
