Description David Flogeras 2014-06-14 11:50:54 UTC
Since linux-3.15 the driver will prefer this ucode, putting a warning in dmesg if it has to fall back. The page (http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi) says they have patches in the queue to make older stable kernels use load it. I checked and it has made it into the 3.14 series, but not 3.12 (and iwl7260 in-kernel driver was buggy before 3.13 anyway).

For now, here's an ebuild that limits itself to >=3.14

Reproducible: Always

Corrected ebuild sys-firmware/iwl7260-ucode-23.214.9.0

Fixed allowed kernel versions to >=3.14.7 since it was only just backported to the 3.14 series

Neat, thanks for the ebuild, I committed this without testing (as I do not have the hardware). Please re-open this bug or file a new one if there are any problems (and later for future bump requests). I bumped the SLOT to 2 so it
can co-exist with firmware for older kernels.

Thanks much Mark, I had tested the 7260-ucode in my own overlay before submitting (I own the hardware), as well as the one in the tree after you added it. Working fine here.
