Description Stefan G. Weichinger 2014-05-12 11:19:10 UTC
When mounting btrfs-subvolumes you have to chose the subvol via mount-options "subvol" or "subvolid". The mounted subvolume should be given back when you list the mounted filesystems with plain "mount" (in other distros that works, afai googled).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. mount -o subvolid=330 /dev/sdc3 /mnt/demo # mount some btrfs-subvol somewhere
2. mount | grep btrfs # check mounted btrfs-filesystems

Actual Results:
Mountpoints are shown, but without subvolume-infos.

Expected Results:
We should see which subvol/subvolid is mounted where.

always post `emerge --info $PN` when you file bugs

do you have /etc/mtab as a symlink to /proc/mounts ?

# ls -l /etc/mtab
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 21. Aug 2011  /etc/mtab -> /proc/self/mounts

System runs with systemd-212-r4 if that makes a difference ...

one month passed.

let me know what else I can provide to help solving this.
Comment 5 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2014-06-15 06:26:28 UTC
really it needs someone who uses btrfs to look into it. i'd expect that the `mount` would update /run/mount/utab, but i'm not entirely sure what logic is in place to make that happen. i don't think there's a dedicated `mount.btrfs` tool which means the plain `mount` would handle it.

seems to me the bug is in the kernel though. notice that while btrfs_parse_options takes care of parsing the input flags, there is no corresponding output in btrfs_show_options.

Does that mean we should ask upstream? The btrfs-guys?
thx, Stefan

I asked on the linux-btrfs-ml and one of the devs explains the current behavior and tries to provide a solution:

http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.file-systems.btrfs/36715

Ubuntu does some patching somewhere ...
Comment 8 Stefan G. Weichinger 2015-09-23 19:17:20 UTC
just checked that here, seems solved to me:

$ mount | grep btrfs
/dev/sda2 on / type btrfs (rw,noatime,compress=lzo,ssd,space_cache,subvolid=258,subvol=/__active/root)

-> subvolid= and subvol= listed ... nice!

As I opened this bug, I assume I am allowed to mark it FIXED? thanks

Completely forgot that I was subscribed to this..long story short: yes, this was merged into kernel 4.2. So yes, fixed. :)
