When I try to connect to google chat, empathy crashes as soon as it connects. When I run the empathy, i see the progress indicator empathy trying to connect and after it does I see the status chaned to "Available" for a brief moment and then empathy crashes. Does it still fail when ofono is installed?
And now I have the same error with zeitgeist-daemon crashing: $ zeitgeist-daemon --log-level=INFO (zeitgeist-datahub:13122): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid (NULL) pointer instance (zeitgeist-datahub:13122): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_signal_connect_data: assertion 'G_TYPE_CHECK_INSTANCE (instance)' failed ** (zeitgeist-datahub:13122): CRITICAL **: zeitgeist_event_get_actor: assertion 'self != NULL' failed ** (zeitgeist-datahub:13122): CRITICAL **: zeitgeist_event_get_actor: assertion 'self != NULL' failed (zeitgeist-daemon:13116): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_variant_ref: assertion 'value->ref_count > 0' failed (zeitgeist-daemon:13116): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_variant_unref: assertion 'value->ref_count > 0' failed g_dbus_connection_real_closed: Remote peer vanished with error: Underlying GIOStream returned 0 bytes on an async read (g-io-error-quark, 0). (In reply to Pacho Ramos from comment #6) > Does it still fail when ofono is installed? Yes, it does.
Looks like something is broken in your dbus setup :/
(In reply to Pacho Ramos from comment #9) > Looks like something is broken in your dbus setup :/ Okay. What can I do about this? I tried reinstalling dbus but it didn't help. My system is up2date and using stable packages. I have unmasked some packages but nothing that would matter with dbus.
(In reply to Pacho Ramos from comment #9) > Looks like something is broken in your dbus setup :/ Hey Pacho, any tips for me on this bug? How can I debug this problem with dbus? Currently I can not use empathy and some other important apps because of this
Did you try on a newly created user account with a fresh home directory? How are you login in your desktop? Are you using gdm+gnome?
(In reply to Pacho Ramos from comment #12) > Did you try on a newly created user account with a fresh home directory? How > are you login in your desktop? Are you using gdm+gnome? Yes, I'm using a newly created user account (fresh home dir as well). Same problem. Yes, I use gdm+gnome. It is a standard gnome installation.
What is your dbus version? (emerge -Opv dbus). We would also like to see "dmesg" output and maybe looking to "journalctl -e" output could help
emerge -Opv dbus These are the packages that would be merged, in order: [ebuild R ] sys-apps/dbus-1.6.18-r1 USE="X systemd -debug -doc (-selinux) -static-libs {-test}" ABI_X86="(64) (-32) (-x32)" 0 kB Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB
Created attachment 373902 [details] journalctl -e I rebooted and then logged in to gnome. I run empathy and generated the crash. After that I get the journalctl output as attached.
Please create a "test" account with a new home, I see in journalctl output multiple lines that indicate that that home directory is not "fresh" at all
(In reply to Pacho Ramos from comment #17) > Please create a "test" account with a new home, I see in journalctl output > multiple lines that indicate that that home directory is not "fresh" at all Oh yea, after reboot I automatically logged into my old account...old habbits...
Created attachment 373920 [details] journalctl -e with new user account
I created the new user "test", rebooted and logged into new account. Added an online account for google using gnome-online-accounts to test empathy. Run empathy, got the crash and then I took the log I added here.
Please provide also "dmesg" output and "systemctl status dbus" Thanks
Also "journalctl -b" could be useful
