Description Karel De Vriendt 2014-03-08 19:06:33 UTC
See also http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-985798.html.

Tabs freeze at random. When going from a correctly behaving tab to a frozen tab, the content of the screen (except the tab indicator) does not change and it takes a while before the mouse becomes available again to go to another tab or another application. Tabs where I had the problem include gmail and the google calendar (that obviously should behave in a google browser). The tabs can be closed, as can the complete browser.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Chromium
2. Open a number of tabs
3. Navigate between tabs
Actual Results:
Frozen tabs

Expected Results:
Correctly working Chromium browser

I have an up to date unstable branch AMD64 system.

Falling back to the previous version of Chromium did not help, disabling HW acceleration in Chromium eliminated the problem. Hence I suspect that the real problem is with one of the packages that is responsible for the HW acceleration.

Please test with google-chrome-beta. If you can reproduce the issue, please file a bug at https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/list (include output of about:gpu when HW acceleration is enabled) and post the link to it here.

If you can/want, testing with version 35 would also be valuable.
Comment 2 Karel De Vriendt 2014-03-09 20:44:57 UTC
I compiled version 35 and that seems to work - I enabled HW acceleration and played with it for a while. Adobe-flash is not found but that should have nothing to do with this problem.

I will now try google-chrome-beta
Comment 3 Karel De Vriendt 2014-03-10 08:11:00 UTC
Google-chrome-beta has the same problem.

As requested, I have created a bug report -see https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=350822
Comment 4 jms 2014-03-11 15:39:50 UTC
-same problem here and falling back to previous version didn't help either.
-disabling hardware acceleration did solve the problem.

*might help to test I open a tab go to a website then new tab go to this one:
http://www.peliculaschingonas.com/ (seems to works all the time with this on)
navigate inside this one opening new tabs from this tab and thereafter opening a new tab and you get frozen tab or tab which displays previous tabs content.

I also experienced this issue and now manually bumped to 34.0.1847.62 - the problem disappears.

So it seems bumping chromium 34.*/beta channel will do.
Comment 8 Mike Gilbert gentoo-dev 2014-03-14 15:46:53 UTC
chromium-34.0.1847.60 is in the tree. Can someone confirm that the issue has been resolved?

Seems to work OK. Thanks
