Description Vladimir 2014-02-28 09:05:33 UTC
In LibreOffice Impress v.4.2.1.1 I observe the following situation if I try to insert a movie into the page:

MPG files:
- can be played (although not correctly) with built-in media player
- If I try to insert the movie, I get an error message like this:

kernel: typefind:sink[18665]: segfault at 0 ip 00007f67eedaa348 sp 00007f67e8f54500 error 4 in libgstlibav.so[7f67eed8d000+34000]

MOV, WEBM, FLV and some AVI files:
- cannot be played in the built-in media player
- produce the following error when are tried to insert:

kernel: soffice.bin[11189]: segfault at 60 ip 00007ffb7d2bdeca sp 00007fff4809c140 error 4 in libavmediagst.so[7ffb7d2b6000+e000]

Some other AVI files:
- cannot be played
- produce a slightly different error message:

ernel: soffice.bin[10940]: segfault at 0 ip (null) sp 00007fff9025c5b8 error 14 in soffice.bin[400000+1000]

The very same situation was observed for the LO-4.2.0.4 as partially described in the Bug 456980

Reproducible: Always

Vladimir, I can not confirm it for LO 4.2.0.4 with media-plugins/gst-plugins-*-1.1. I used videos from http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1425

Did you fixed it for LO 4.2.0.4 ? If you didn't it, I have to build your version for checkhing this issue.

I have media-plugins/gst-plugins-libav-1.2.0 installed.
I experienced this problem with LO 4.2.0.4 and now with 4.2.1.1. I have no idea how to fix it.

I installed the

media-libs/gst-plugins-bad-1.2.3
  and
media-libs/gst-plugins-good-1.2.3

packages, and now everything seem to work fine.
I must also note that if I install only one of the mentioned packages, not every video file is played back -- some of them are played as normal, and some of them make the Impress crash just like I described earlier. So, obviously, both these package together with the 'media-plugins/gst-plugins-libav' are needed in order to play back all of the files correclty

Not sure what to do here. If we add more plugins as dependencies, people will scream too...

Please file a new bug if you still have this problem with current libreoffice.
