Description Erik Dobak 2013-12-14 20:56:09 UTC
after loging in to terminal via CTRL+ALT+F1 my xsession gets lost and X is in the login screen. it happened to me a few times.

/var/log/messages:
Dec 13 22:34:29 kernel: xfce4-session[11876]: segfault at ffffffff00000000 ip 00007fe74017ccd7 sp 00007fff9e3a6200 error 5 in libglib-2.0.so.0.3600.4[7fe740118000+127000]

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1.have xfce 4.10 installed
2. try to login to terminal in CTRL+ALT+F1
3. does happen only ocassionaly
Actual Results:
segfault

Expected Results:
no segfault

i have also find a similar case here:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-7461542.html

and archlinux is having same issues here:
https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/34980

the workaround for them is to downgrade these:
glib2-2.36.1-1-x86_64
glibmm-2.36.0-1-x86_64

to v2.34...

Happens to me as well, usually after hitting Alt+F2 and running something.

I'm also getting this; fairly infrequently....maybe once a week but it's still bloody annoying.

[64307.796843] xfce4-session[14330]: segfault at ffffffff00000000 ip 00007f01c211750f sp 00007fffca846ee0 error 5 in libglib-2.0.so.0.3600.4[7f01c20b1000+127000]

I'd downgrade until it's fixed, but there seem to be at least 15 packages that depend explicitly on glib version 2.63.4 (and then packages that depend on THOSE packages) and I'm not ready to sit down and figure out everything I'd need to mask.

Installing unstable xfce4-session (xfce-base/xfce4-session-4.10.1) handles this. I have been running my system without crashes for a week now.

Please post your `emerge --info xfce-base/xfce4-session' output in a comment.
Comment 5 Nikolay 2013-12-17 14:13:19 UTC
Also, please note I was not experiencing crashes while changing TTY. I was experiencing crashes (xfce4-session segfault error in libglib) when launching Firefox and Thunar. See Bug URL: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-7461542.html. Anyway latest xfce4-session handled that.

Is that a different bug or the same one?

No, _this_ is the bug report, the forum thread is where you chat about it.

This is the bug as it was reported.

I understand that, I expressed myself in wrong way. I just wanted to indicate that I was one who started that topic on forum which gathered couple more people having same problem with xfce4-session crash.

I had same crash, but not while changing TTY. I am sorry if it was wrong to post here, but I decided to comment on this bug because I had similar problem with xfce4-session which was crashing. Probably it is the same bug, but invoked in different way. Compare log messages - they look very similar:

Erik Dobbak's crash:
