Yesterday I tried to update my system since a ~3 months without updates and got a blocker packages: dev-lang/python-exec - already installed (0.3.1 before system update) dev-python/python-exec - candidate to install which blocked many python packages because of conflict with dev-lang/python-exec I masked second package and updated system successfully. But when I tried to update world, it caused new blocks and require dev-python/python-exec unmasking. Emerge world with unmask seems to be ready for emerge. But I think this is NOT normal situation with duplicate packages and I still waiting for right decision. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Try to update system 2. Mask dev-python/python-exec 3. Update system 4. Try to update world Actual Results: Update not starts. Expected Results: Update of world. # eix python-exec [I] dev-lang/python-exec Available versions: (0) 0.3.1 **0.9999 (2) (~)2.0 **2.9999 {PYTHON_TARGETS="jython2_5 jython2_7 pypy2_0 python2_6 python2_7 python3_2 python3_3"} Installed versions: 2.0(2)(08:49:58 PM 11/02/2013)(PYTHON_TARGETS="jython2_5 jython2_7 pypy2_0 python2_6 python2_7 python3_2 python3_3") Homepage: https://bitbucket.org/mgorny/python-exec/ Description: Python script wrapper * dev-python/python-exec Available versions: (0) [m]10000.1 (2) [m](~)10000.2 {PYTHON_TARGETS="jython2_5 jython2_7 pypy2_0 python2_6 python2_7 python3_2 python3_3"} Homepage: https://bitbucket.org/mgorny/python-exec/ Description: Compatibility package for dev-lang/python-exec =========================================================================== # emerge --info !!! Created attachment 362480 [details] Emerge without unmasking dev-python/python-exec
If you don't want dev-python/python-exec, you'll have do some cleanup in /var/db/pkg. grep -RlF dev-python/python-exec /var/db/pkg/*/*/{DEPEND,RDEPEND} Re-install any packages that finds. You should then be able to eliminate dev-python/python-exec from your system.
Also, you don't want to mask it. You want to install dev-python/python-exec-10000.1 which is a virtual package that pulls in dev-lang/python-exec. Afterwards, you may use 'emerge --depclean -v dev-python/python-exec' to see what needs to be rebuilt. After you rebuild all the deps, you can depclean it.
