Description Matthew Marlowe (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-10-30 19:24:16 UTC
On the gentoo forums, there is the following thread with many users reporting crashes:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-6989240.html

Apparently on some systems, firefox segfaults whenever it is rebuilt after gconf is upgraded.
The only way to get firefox to work again is to:
- Unmerge gconf
- rm -rf /etc/gconf ~/.gconf ~/.gconfd
- Emerge gconf

I found this happening on my own dev workstation this morning....I didn't bother to open up gdb.

We probably should keep an open bug about it so users can find instructions on how to fix their systems.....It would be nice if we could find someway to have the firefox or gconf ebuilds automatically detect and fix this issue.

I carefully review emerge messages and didn't see any pertinent notices.

Please do not refer to a forum post and do a full bug report like you would usually do.

Is this about firefox or firefox-bin ?

Please provide emerge --info and a backtrace [1]
