Works for me -- CC'ing arches.  

Note though that the current stable also provides unit files, this version just has an additional feature to be sure that, if it's built with USE=consolekit but started with systemd, that it won't try and start consolekit.

I just installed slim-1.3.5-r3 and upon login there is a long but no "user/password" text and when I type anything nothing is echoed to the screen not ever "user name".

This is x86

typo; it should be "...there is a logo..."

The login works.

It appears it is not the problem with slim, as downgrading it produces the same result.
