Description Eugene Shalygin 2013-08-13 17:20:00 UTC
Since kde-misc/polkit-kde-kcmodules still creates pkla files, it would be nice for users of new polkit (and there is no old polkit in the tree anymore) to have PDEPEND on sys-auth/polkit-pkla-compat
Comment 1 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-08-13 17:23:22 UTC
@kde maintainers:
Feel free to open KEYWORDREQ or STABLEREQ for polkit-pkla-compat as you see fit. The package is good to go.
Comment 2 Chris Reffett (RETIRED) gentoo-dev Security 2013-08-13 20:38:45 UTC
Nope. We're due to remove polkit-kde-kcmodules soon (actually, I think we're able to lastrite it now, will check later). @rest of KDE team: could you all check if all deps on it are gone and lastrite it if so?
Comment 3 Eugene Shalygin 2013-08-13 20:44:01 UTC
Why do you man to remove it? And how we are supposed to edit polkit rules?
Comment 4 Eugene Shalygin 2013-08-13 20:44:49 UTC
Wht do you *want*? Sorry for the typo
Comment 5 Chris Reffett (RETIRED) gentoo-dev Security 2013-08-13 20:50:06 UTC
We want to remove it because a) of bug 438790, and b) because most distros do not ship it as experimental code. We already no longer pull it in with kdelibs. Are users unable to edit polkit rules if this isn't installed? I wasn't aware of that.

They are not. They can write custom JavaScript .rules to /etc or install the polkit-pkla-compat and keep using the XML .pkla format
Both of which has working examples in manpages etc.

What the kcmmodule did was it by-passed all of that and wrote directly to polkit's files :/

So what I'm seeing is that users are expected to write js rules in order to do simple things like mount a usb stick.

That is fucked up beyond belief.
Comment 8 Chris Reffett (RETIRED) gentoo-dev Security 2013-09-23 13:51:44 UTC
Pretty sure that's incorrect. polkit-kde-kcmodules hasn't been pulled in by kdelibs for a while now, and we have had no reports of mounting issues like that. I believe that this is just for writing complex custom rules. And again, polkit-kde-kcmodules is not shipped by most distros. It's not at the point of being release-quality yet and is officially experimental code.
