Description Simon Siemonsma 2013-06-09 06:41:40 UTC
I can emerge xbmc > 12.0.
When I want to run it I get a black screen. (running it from KDE)
Nothing else is happening.
Also xbmc 12.0 refuses to play mms streams.

To solve this I do:
-cp xbmc-12.0.ebuild xbmc-12.2.ebuild (this solves the black screen)
-ad --disable-external-ffmpeg \
to the src_configure() -> econf section of the ebuild. (this solves playing mms streams)
-ebuild xbmc-12.2.ebuild digest
-emerge xbmc

So it seems that:
-the changes in the ebuild from 12.0 to 12.1 broke xbmc (at least on my system)
-external ffmpeg brakes xbmc (see also bug #466718 for another way external ffmpeg breaks ffmpeg)

you must post `emerge --info` as an attachment to all of your bugs

you should also post the output from running:
  emerge -qpv =xbmc-12.0
  emerge -qpv =xbmc-12.1
  emerge -qpv =xbmc-12.2

many USE flags have been added with newer ebuilds, so it's likely your system disables features that you otherwise need/want
